FLYSURFER was born from a passion for wind, technology, and shared experiences outside. In 2001, four friends at Lake Chiemsee set out to move their sports forward. They brought experience from paragliding, a deep love for kiting, and the belief that good ideas need time, courage, and honest feedback. From the beginning, FLYSURFER was never about simply adding more kites to the market. It was about one question: how can wind become more efficient, more controllable, and more versatile? That question still guides us today. The first products already showed where FLYSURFER was heading: light wind performance, depower, relaunch, safety, and the freedom to experience wind beyond the water. FLYSURFER became a brand with its own direction. Technical, curious, and close to the people who truly use their gear.

Foil kites are part of our DNA. They stand for efficiency, control, and a conscious way of using wind. They can be light, powerful, durable, and versatile. They work on water, on snow, on land, and at spots where conditions are not always predictable. This versatility shaped FLYSURFER early on. Kitesurfing, snowkiting, landkiting, hydrofoiling, Big Air, training, and racing are not separate worlds to us. They are different ways of using wind. With wings, another discipline has become part of this mindset: direct, accessible, and close to the element. Each discipline asks different questions of equipment, handling, and safety. That is where development begins. A kite or wing should not only prove itself in the lab or on a spec sheet. It has to work when you need it. In light wind. In changing conditions. In training. “Ahead of its time” is not a loud claim for us. It describes a mindset. FLYSURFER has always been strongest when we took niches seriously before they became big. Light wind. Snowkite. Training. Foil. From first session to Olympic gold.
FLYSURFER supports many different paths into the sport. Some riders start with their first safe meters. Others search for new spots, new conditions, or new disciplines. Some train for their next personal step. Others line up for an Olympic race. In 2024, this range became visible in a remarkable way. At the Olympic debut of Formula Kite in Marseille, every athlete in the fleet chose the VMG². For us, this was more than a result. It was the outcome of years of work, close collaboration, and deep trust in a product built for efficiency, precision, and control. Big Air showed the same connection between experience, courage, and teamwork. With the ERA, new heights were reached and strong results were achieved. These moments are not only about performance. They show what becomes possible when athletes, developers, and the team work toward the same goals over time.
The VMG deserves its own story.
The VMG is a special part of the FLYSURFER story. It connects foil kite knowledge, material research, racing experience, and the trust of athletes at the highest level. Its development began years before the Olympic moment. It was shaped by testing, setbacks, detail work, and close collaboration between R&D, team riders, and race athletes.
